JAKARTA -- Heavy rains Friday swamped several areas in the East Kalimantan capital of Samarinda on the Indonesian island of Borneo, officials reported.
Officials said waters flooded several areas, including Sempaja, Lempake, Jl Dr Sutomo and Remaja, and thousands of homes in Samarinda Ilir and North Samarinda were submerged, The Jakarta Post reported.
The worst flooding was reported in Sempaja, the newspaper said, with waters rising 50 centimeters, about 20 inches.
