YORK, England -- English police said Friday a body discovered in York may be that of a 35-year-old chef who went missing in the area a month ago.
North Yorkshire Police said while the body's identity has yet to be determined, it was located in the same city where University of York chef Claudia Lawrence was last seen on March 18, The Times of London said.
Thursday's discovery of the body in the River Ouse comes a day after police asked the public for additional information regarding a possible sighting of Lawrence on March 19.
A passing motorist reportedly saw a man standing over a woman in the middle of an apparent argument in the area on March 19.
The last confirmed contact with Lawrence, who worked at the University of York's Goodricke College, occurred on March 18 when she spoke to her parents and text-messaged two friends.
The Times said the North Yorkshire Police's investigation into the woman's disappearance is the largest conducted by the police force in five years.
