Gunfire redefines IDF's border stance
by UPI

NAZARETH - The decision by Israeli troops to fire at figures along Lebanon's border last week represents a drastic change in Israel Defense Forces' policy, a report said.

The Jerusalem Post reported that when the IDF troops opened fire at the shadowy figures last Thursday at the Israel-Lebanon border, the military action represented a less restrained defense policy from the military group.

Thursday's instance of gunfire was the first in the region from IDF forces since last August, when a cease-fire was put into place and troops were ordered to use restraint.

IDF troops taking fire from Lebanese soldiers in January even managed to hold their fire until the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon was able to intervene.

An unidentified source in the Israeli Northern Command said that the armed response represented the nation's new stance regarding its sovereignty in the area.

The source told the Post that any activity against Israel's sovereignty would be met with similar aggressive responses from IDF troops.
