BAGHDAD - Iraqi and U.S. forces reported progress Wednesday in their security sweep of Baghdad with numerous arrests of suspected insurgents.
The forces reported two militants were killed and 20 others were arrested in the clampdown, Alsumaria reported.
In the town of Arab Jabour, south of Baghdad, the U.S. military said it had captured five members of al-Qaida in Iraq, including its regional leader, although he was not identified, CNN reported.
In the Rasafa region, Iraqi and U.S. troops engaged insurgents. Alsumaria reported 19 insurgents were killed and nine others taken into custody.
Baghdad police reported finding nine bullet-riddled bodies around the city in the past 24 hours.
