MANILA, Philippines - A bomb attack Tuesday in a market area in the Muslim insurgency-plagued southern Philippines killed at least three people and wounded 21 others, CNN reported.
The bombing was reported in the town of Tacurong on the southern Island of Mindanao. The U.S. Embassy in Manila had warned last month of the possibility of a terrorist group planning bombing attacks in the region, CNN said.
"It is a terrorist attack," said Police Superintendent Joel Limson. "Prior to the incident we received a report that there will be a bomb in the area."
Police Monday found and dismantled an explosive device about one mile from where the Tuesday explosion occurred.
Elections-related violence has claimed dozens of lives in recent months in the Philippines, where elections are set for Monday.
