BAGHDAD - Six men suspected of smuggling weapons from Iran to Iraq were detained Friday during raids in eastern Baghdad.
"Coalition forces are targeting the terrorists, searching them out in the places they hide," said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, a spokesman for the Multi-National Force. "This morning's operation is one more step in removing the terrorist networks from Iraq."
The men are alleged to have smuggled weapons and helped insurgents move into Iraq from Iran, Garver said.
Several weapons and explosive materials also were seized, reported the Kuwait News Agency, KUNA.
One of the men was an explosives expert and weapons dealer, while another was responsible for numerous killings, kidnappings and attacks on Iraqi civilians and coalition forces, KUNA reported.
