TORONTO - A Toronto high school student was shot and later died from his wounds inside the school and police say they do not yet have a suspect.
Jordan Manners, 15, was shot inside C.W. Jefferys Collegiate high school Wednesday and was taken to a city hospital where he died from his injuries, The Toronto Star reported Thursday.
Meanwhile, the school was in lockdown, with students kept in their classrooms for hours while police searched the hallways for clues.
"It may have been a student. It may have been someone who was not supposed to be in the school. It's something we're going to have to find out about," said homicide Det. Sgt. Chris Buck. He said police have yet to find any direct witnesses to the shooting.
Toronto Mayor David Miller said after the incident he believes it is time to "redouble our efforts" to decrease the number of guns in the city.
The Toronto District School Board canceled classes for the day but said the school would remain open with grief counselors on hand to speak to distraught students and teachers.
