CARACAS, Venezuela - Venezuela's highest court has ruled that a leading opposition television station must go off the air next week, El Universal reported Thursday.
A request by RCTV for "protective measures" while it appeals the decision in Venezuela's Supreme Court was rejected, and the company must cease broadcasting Monday until its appeal is complete.
President Hugo Chavez said the station's programming will be replaced by state-approving programming.
The leftist Chavez has been critical of RCTV, saying it was undermining his authority with its political satire.
