BAQUBA, Iraq - A mass grave in Baqubah contains the bodies of at least 15 people who appear to have been buried within the past two weeks, Iraqi police said Friday.
The burial site contained the bodies of 15 unidentified people and the cause of their deaths was not immediately apparent, the Kuwaiti news agency KUNA reported. There were also human remains that appeared to have been hacked up with knives.
The bodies appear to have been buried in the past two weeks in the city 40 miles northeast of Baghdad, KUNA reported. Residents directed police to the grave after they noticed dogs gathering behind a mosque in southern Baquba.
Baquba, just outside the Sunni triangle, has been a center of Sunni insurgent activity for several years.
