PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria -- Six Russians working in the Niger Delta were abducted in southern Nigeria, officials with the Russian embassy in the West African nation said Sunday.
Unidentified gunmen reportedly broke into the home of the Russians and kidnapped them, Nigeria's Vanguard newspaper reported.
The Russians' Nigerian driver was killed in the assault.
More than 150 foreign workers have been abducted in Nigeria so far this year. Many are taken by armed militant groups seeking to cripple the country's lucrative oil industry while calling for more equitable distribution of oil wealth.
