MADRID - A member of the armed Basque separatist group ETA who once conducted a hunger strike has been returned to prison amid a crackdown on the group.
Inaki de Juana Chaos was returned to prison in Madrid just one day after ETA announced it was ending its 15-month cease fire with Spanish authorities, The Times of London reported Thursday.
Juana Chaos had been held at a nearby hospital where he was receiving treatment for severe malnutrition caused by his recent hunger strike.
For more than three decades, ETA has been fighting for an autonomous homeland along the Spanish-French border. More than 850 people have been killed in ETA-related violence during that time.
