BEIJING - China has issued a strong objection to a resolution adopted by the U.S. House of Representatives urging Beijing to pressur Sudan on Darfur.
"Disregarding China's constructive efforts over the Darfur issue, the resolution condemned China without reason, tries to link the issue with the Beijing Olympics and wantonly interfered into China's internal affairs," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said in a written statement reported by the official government news agency, Xinhua.
China, a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council, is Sudan's biggest trading partner and its major oil customer. Critics say Chinese officials are willing to ignore the brutal war in the Darfur region that has killed hundreds of thousands and made millions homeless.
