BEIJING - Recent torrential rains in China have killed 66 people and at least 12 more are missing.
A Ministry of Civil Affairs official in Beijing said rains destroyed more than 48,000 homes in southern China and at least 94,000 others were damaged, the Xinhua News Agency reported Sunday.
Also, about 591,000 people have had to evacuate their homes, the official added. "Floods caused by heavy rains have affected about (750,000 acres) of crops, completely destroying (133,000 acres) of them," the official said.
Continuous torrential rains, mudslides and floods have hit the Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Jiangxi and Fujian provinces since Wednesday.
The ministry reported an estimated $371 million in damages were caused by the disasters.
