Nasser son-in-law dies mysteriously
by UPI

LONDON - The son-in-law of former Egyptian President Gamel Abdel Nasser was found dead in London in suspicious circumstances.

The death of Ashraf Marwan had not been classified as a homicide, The Times of London reported. Some in London's Arab community suggested he might have committed suicide after learning he was seriously ill.

Zvi Zamir, former head of the Mossad, the Israeli secret service, told Haaretz he believes Marwan died because of reports that he warned Israel in 1973 of the impending Yom Kippur War. Nasser died in 1970, but Marwan was also close to Nasser's successor, Anwar Sadat.

Marwan was also a man who owned great personal wealth, although few people know how he made his money.

Zamir told Haaretz the British police must determine whether Marwan was killed or took his own life. But he said he met with Marwan, who denied having been anyone's agent, just before the Yom Kippur War began.
