NICOSIA, Cyprus - State radio in Cyprus is reporting a missing U.S. diplomat has been found dead in a remote area of the Mediterranean island.
Cyprus Broadcasting Corp. says the body of Tom Mooney, a defense attache at the U.S. Embassy, was discovered four days after he disappeared, the BBC reported Monday.
The 45-year-old diplomat, serving his second tour of duty on the island, was last seen leaving the U.S. embassy in his Chevrolet Saloon.
A private television station in Cyprus is reporting that his body was found a short distance from his car on a dirt track in forested hills outside Nicosia.
Cyprus is generally considered a safe place for diplomats.
There was an attempted car bombing of the Israeli embassy in 1988 and U.S. Ambassador Rodger Davies was killed by Greek Cypriot protesters in 1974.
