CARACAS, Venezuela -- Venezuela will purchase more than $1 billion worth of arms from Belarus, officials in Minsk said Monday.
Belorussian officials said the deal would be signed later this month but did not provide details of the agreement, El Universal reported online Monday.
Belarus would, in turn, receive contracts to explore for oil in Venezuela.
During a recent visit to Belarus, leftist Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called for closer ties between the nations.
