OSLO, Norway -- A 28-year-old Australian man died Tuesday when his parachute failed to open when he jumped from a cliff in northeast Norway.
The Sydney Morning Herald said the victim, Stephen Anderton, was an experienced jumper.
Anderton, who was from Brisbane, was one of six men, who had planned to jump, the Herald said Wednesday. Police said he died of massive head injuries.
BASE is an acronym for "Building, Antenna, Spans, Earth," which describes the locations from which participants jump. The newspaper Aftenposten said the mountain Harstadnebba in Sunndal is a popular place for the extreme sport.
