BAGHDAD -- An Iraqi general said Monday his troops detained more than 100 suspected insurgents during security operations last week.
Brig. Gen. Qassim Atta told Pentagon reporters from Baghdad that a large cache of ammonium nitrate, an ingredient in truck bombs, was also seized during what was dubbed Operation Fard al-Qanun.
“We praise the role of the Iraqi army and the Iraqi national police and the cooperation the people are showing with the security forces,” Atta said through a translator.
Atta said the operation included a number of weapons seizures and the capture of Mohammed Marwan al-Adnan, whom he identified as a local al-Qaida commander.
