CARACAS, Venezuela -- Venezuelan student protesters clashed with police and pro-government supporters, El Universal newspaper reported Wednesday.
The students, demonstrating against proposed changes to the country's constitution, tried to push through a police line and threw bottles and rocks at authorities, which then fired tear gas on the crowd.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has proposed a number of changes to the country's laws including an amendment that would allow him to continue to seek office after his current term expires.
The proposed changes are scheduled to be voted on in a referendum this year.
