BEDLINGTON, England -- An English homeowner told a court that a window salesman assaulted him after the man learned he and his wife had obtained a quote from another company.
George Dixon said that Carl Birkenshaw came to his house in Cramlington, Northumberland, for an estimate on a conservatory he and his wife are planning, The Daily Mail reported. Birkenshaw, a salesman for Paramount Windows and Conservatories, became unpleasant when the Dixons told him that he already obtained a price elsewhere.
"I said all we wanted was a quote, not to hear him slagging off the other company," Dixon said. "He started shouting and ranting that we were wasting his time and so I stood up and asked him to leave. My wife was becoming very upset."
Birkenshaw assaulted him as he tried to escort him to the door, Dixon said. The salesman finally ran out of the house when his wife said she had called police.
Birkenshaw's solicitor questioned Dixon, suggesting that he was the one who assaulted the salesman.
