Great column up until the part about the trade embargo. The U.S. is the only country that is putting actual pressure on the regime. Spain and the UK and Canada are all doing business with Cuba (read: in bed with the regime) and have a vested interest in Cuban status quo. How does travel and trade with Cuba help the Cuban people when the economy is completely centralized. Whatever trickle down there is, comes because the regime explicitly allows it. And they allow very little.
Change needs to come but it has to come from Cuba. Cubans will prosper when the castro regime lifts the embargo it has placed on its own people.
