Id like to see the evidence behind this claim:
"Longer ice-free seasons have resulted in reduced survival of young and old polar bears and a chronic population decline over the past 20 years," says Amstrup.
A recent article in the Canadian National Post claims exactly the opposite.
"The latest government survey of polar bears roaming the vast Arctic expanses of northern Quebec, Labrador and southern Baffin Island show the population of polar bears has jumped to 2,100 animals from around 800 in the mid-1980s."
How does 165% growth from the mid-1980s constitute "chronic population decline over the past 20 years"?
Maybe this Amstrup fellow is just making it all up for some publicity and government grand money.
