- Although the writer should check on some of the "facts" she mentions on the article, it remains true that the proponents of statehood have been trying to "win" it by redacting deceitful proposals in Congress, but have ALWAYS lost the elections in Puerto Rico. They know that Puertoricans don't want statehood, yet they bring up year after year legislation to try to sidestep the current status, Commonwealth. They know that the only way to win a vote in Puerto Rico is by taking Commonwealth out of the picture.

- First, Americans need to understand that PR do not want to be a US Territory. PR was on the verge on getting their freedom from Spain, but US somehow was "attack" by Spain to start the SpanAmer War. Second, PR request for peacful independence was stomp by US Gov. Now, US must ripe what it sow.
PR have died fighting in all the American wars starting with WW1, so PR has the right to be a State if they choose.
This writer has no idea of PR infrastructure which is within US standards.
