Shoeless Joe Jackson took $5,000 (and showed it to his team), but never admitted doing anything crooked in the 1919 World Series to earn it. Eliot Asinof's undocumented 1963 "Eight Men Out" is not definitive and much of it is inaccurate. Best buy? Might be "Burying the Black Sox" and I'd like Mr Salm to review it someday.
