- The American poetess and satirist, Mrs. Dorothy Rothschild Parker ( 1893– 1967 ), was of the ‘view’ that every women, as a preventive measure from eve-teasing, must wear glasses, because : MEN DO NOT MAKE PASSES---AT GIRLS WHO WEAR GLASSES. Another American satirist and poet ( of 18th century ), Johan Trumbull, about the importance of glasses had written : FOR ANY MAN WITH HALF AN EYE---WHAT STANDS BEFORE HIM MAY ESPY ;--BUT OPTICS SHARP IT NEEDS I WEEN,---TO SEE WHAT IS NOT TO BE SEEN.
