Phyllis - the Fair Tax Act of 2007 will cure a thousand things; now I realize it will cure a thousand and one.
Why try to force 137 other countries to change their indirect tax system (VAT) when it would be easier and more advantageous for the US to simply implement the Fair Tax Act - which is an idirect tax that would allow US exporters to enjoy the same rebate advantage as the rest of the WTO.
When the other countries won't bend (and they won't' we're the only country with a direct tax on trade), the US will hit them with tariffs to reimburse our exporters, and we'll have the Smoot-Holly Tariff Act all over again -- which killed 60% of world trade and heralded in the great depression.
Let's demand the Fair Tax, and let freedom ring.
