Are there any fellow chuck fans out there? Yes, i like to pretend we are mutually on a first name basis. My old roomate and I named our cat after him. We call her Charley because she is female but the name was in honor of Chuck.
This is the guy who wrote Fight Club, the controversial and in my opinion, brilliantly made movie with Ed Norton and Brad Pitt. I've read all of his books cover to cover and all of them have absolutely blown me away with everything about them. As a struggling writer, I appreciated especially the sexy way he has with words, the great concepts and ideas he throws out there about life and wow, just everything. I've seen him speak a couple times and according to my memory, apparently 3 of his other novels have already been signed on to turn into movies. My favorite, "Survivor" was supposed to be out already and has been started, but it takes place entirely on a crashing airplane, (piloted by one suicidal compelling character who grew up in a cult and is an expert on stain removal and cleaning products) so because of the 9/11 incident, it was put on hold.
The other books, besides that, in order of his that you must must read are:
Invisible Monsters
Choke
Lullaby
Diary
Fight Club (the book)
Sorry this is so long but im slightly obsessed. I want everyone to love him as much as i do.
Heres a few great quotes from the beginning pages of invisible monsters:
"What i tell myself is the gush of red pumping out of Brandy's bullet hole is less like blood than it's some sociopolitical tool. The thing about being cloned from all those shampoo commercials, well, that goes for me and Brandy Alexander too. Shotgunning anybody in this room would be the moral equivalent of killing a car, a vacuum cleaner, a Barbie doll. erasing a computer disk. burning a book. Probably that goes for killing anybody in the world. We're all such products."
And..
"JUst before Evie comes screaming down the stairs and shoots Brandy Alexander, what I did was pour out about a gallon of Chanel Number Five and put a burning weding invitation to it, and boom, I'm recycling.
It's funny, but when you think about even the biggest tragic fire it's just a sustained chemical reaction. The oxidation of Joan of Arc.
Still spinning on the floor, the rifle points at me, points at Brandy.
Another thing is not matter how much you think you love somebody, you'll step back when th epool of their blood edges up too close." _________________ LOVESONG
