| How long do you think a couple should be together before they get married or engaged? |

| Wow. That's a tough question. I think the answer would be different for everyone. I don't see any reason to have a long engagement.. if you love someone enough to say yes to proposal, then there is no need to wait to get married. |

| My friends vary pretty wildly on this issue. I have one friend who wants some world-wind romance. He always says he wants to be swept off his feet by some fabulous girl and get married right away. Some of my other friends want long engagements and plenty of couple's counseling before they seal the deal. Me, I'm in between. I do believe in getting pre-marital counseling, but I don't necessarily think I want to wait a year or two if I feel like I've found a partner who I really love and who shares a similar lifestyle and goals. I think a year or two is common (depending on how much time it takes to plan the wedding). |

I'd say it depends on how much they know about each other BEFORE they get engaged - if you just meet someone in a bar and get married the next weekend, you can't know everything about them that you need.... like, do they leave their dirty underwear on the floor!

well me and my current gf have been seeing each other for over 2 years and i really feel as if she and her mother are pressuring me into speeding up this process.
i mean i love her and i wanna spend the rest of my life with her but the whole married thing scares me i guess. |

I agree that the time differs for every couple and there are so many issues and dynamics in every relationship. It is really hard to quantify but the simple answer is: however long it takes to makeyou feel right about the decision.
I guess this can apply to any life decision and should not be taken lightly.
Reese - do not let anybody pressure you. Be honest and genuine about your feelings and the end result should be best for all involved. |

thats a very hard question to answer some ppl wait years but yet i have been with my g/f for 2 yrs and i feel she is the one im actually gettin ready to ask her to marry because she is so perfect in everyway for me i guess it all depends on how the couple gets along and feels about one another there is no right and wrong time to get married or engaged u just have to feel in your heart that they are the one for you.
and reese dont rush into if u aint ready then wait till u are her parents should respect that u arent ready..your g/f and her parents should understand |
