Abuse Of Mentally Disabled Men Caught On Cell Phone Video

Police in Anaheim, California, have released a pair of cell phone video clips they say depict a caretaker slapping two mentally retarded men. Although the caretaker has been arrested, police released the video Thursday in the hopes of finding Michael Rama, a co-worker who owned the cell phone.
"We don't know who was filming the beatings, that's why we need to talk to him," Sgt. Rick Martinez said. Patrick John Solis, 22, of South Gate, was arrested last week for investigation of felony false imprisonment and misdemeanor dependent abuse.
Martinez said Solis is seen in one clip slapping a 38-year-old man with the mental capacity of a 2 year old in the bathroom of an Anaheim vocational center. The victim is heard shrieking and appears to be cowering from the repeated strikes.
"What we see is the victim cornered in a bathroom, and Solis is slapping him for what appears to be no reason except for self gratification," Martinez said. The second clip shows a 30-year-old man with the mental capabilities of a toddler repeatedly slapped in a bathroom, Martinez said. In the background, a person is heard laughing each time the victim is struck.
