One driver was hospitalized with head injuries and another was treated and released on scene for injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 midway between Bend and Redmond on Monday afternoon, deputies reported. Deschutes County deputies took an unidentified man who was allegedly trespassing in the Tumalo Falls-area into custody for evaluation at a local hospital on Sunday afternoon. Confused and disoriented in blizzard conditions, the man, about 50-years old, was found about 3:30 p.m. inside a woodshed at a home near Tumalo Falls accessible only by snowmobile or track ATVs, Cpl. Fire officials announced Thursday that the likely cause of a fire that nearly destroyed a Deschutes River Woods mobile home early the day before was the improper disposal of smoking materials on an exterior deck that ignited combustible furniture. A break in a large water main closed SE Reed Market Road between Paiute Way and Harold Street in Bend early this morning, but crews worked throughout the night and were able to reopen it by about 7 a.m. According to a news release prepared by Bend Police Sgt. A driver who ignored the emergency lights of a deputy’s patrol car on China Hat Road south of Bend on New Year’s Eve eventually stopped, got out of his vehicle, then apparently shot and killed himself with a rifle, authorities reported.
