A 26-year old Bend man was killed and his brother injured in a rollover crash on Knott Road early Sunday morning that deputies say was alcohol-related. “Lay-offs are unavoidable. We are in a tough situation right now,” City Officials say. Citing "enormously" decreased revenues caused by the steep downturn in local building industry markets, The City of Bend announced this week its intention to lay off ten employees. An 85-year old Bend driver died Tuesday afternoon when, in an attempt to pass a backhoe on Highway 26 near Madras, his car sideswiped an oncoming pickup and then struck another car head-on.  The car’s driver, a Warm Springs-area woman, was also killed, police said, and her two passengers were seriously injured.
