Cessna Aircraft Company announced this week it was the high bidder in bankruptcy court for the Bend, Oregon-based Columbia Aircraft Manufacturing company. The sale for $26.4 million is anticipated to be completed by December 4, at which time the Bend operation will take on the Cessna name. Fire officials say a heat lamp in a garage ignited nearby combustibles, sparking a fire that caused an estimated $95,000 in damage to a home, its contents, and a garaged vehicle in a northeast Bend residence late Sunday night. Fire officials say that an overloaded extension cord sparked a fire that destroyed a 29-foot fifth-wheel RV in the Deschutes River Woods area. Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies reported that icy road conditions contributed to five separate motor vehicle crashes on Wednesday and Thursday, one involving a jack-knifed semi truck and another three vehicles.  No one was injured, and everyone involved was wearing appropriate safety restraints. Two brothers, 12- and 15-years old, were arrested Sunday afternoon after an investigation led deputies to believe they were responsible for the theft of jewelry and firearms from their neighbor’s home in the Tumalo area north of Bend. A 30-year old Sisters man received non-life threatening injuries when he lost control of his pickup and struck a power pole Sunday afternoon in an accident that affected traffic lights at two busy intersections in north Bend, police reported.
