CENTRAL OREGON — A proposed Plan of Exploration (POE) to explore geothermal resources on the Deschutes National Forest was recently approved by Prineville BLM District Manager Deborah Henderson-Norton. A 71-year old woman from Bend died at the hospital from an apparent heart attack after her sport utility vehicle left the roadway and became partially submerged in the Deschutes River at Riverbend Park, police reported. A Deschutes County teenager was arrested Thursday evening after he allegedly shot his 16-year-old friend in the head as they were firing various weapons on BLM land north of Alpine Drive in the Alfalfa area, deputies reported. In a unanimous 7-0 vote during Wednesday night’s meeting of the Bend City Council, councilors voted to terminate the employment of city manager Andy Anderson effective November 17.
