BEND, Ore. -- Thursday fire officials held the line around the Woodside Ranch fire and experienced no growth in the 589-acre fire.  According to the Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center, as of 4:45 p.m. the fire was currently 40 percent contained with a line completely around the perimeter. A 63-year old La Pine man drowned Sunday afternoon while swimming in the Little Deschutes River near Dorrance Meadow Road, deputies reported. According to witnesses, Dennis L. Wade slipped under the surface of the Little Deschutes River while swimming with his wife and friends.  No one saw him struggle or call for help. A good Samaritan passing by a southeast Bend home Monday night noticed flames and smoke, called 911 and notified the homeowner that his deck was on fire, allowing all the residents to escape safely.  Fire inspectors believe that a hot tub on the home’s upper level deck sparked the blaze that caused an estimated $35,000 damage.
