BEND, Ore. -- Thursday fire officials held the line around the Woodside Ranch fire and experienced no growth in the 589-acre fire. According to the Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center, as of 4:45 p.m. the fire was currently 40 percent contained with a line completely around the perimeter.
Firefighters will continue to strengthen the fire-line and mop-up the fire perimeter.

A 63-year old La Pine man drowned Sunday afternoon while swimming in the Little Deschutes River near Dorrance Meadow Road, deputies reported.
According to witnesses, Dennis L. Wade slipped under the surface of the Little Deschutes River while swimming with his wife and friends. No one saw him struggle or call for help.

The City of Bend will be conducting a rider survey of Bend Area Transit users beginning Monday, July 30. The purpose of the survey is to gain greater insight into travel patterns, and rider demographics of BAT users.

A good Samaritan passing by a southeast Bend home Monday night noticed flames and smoke, called 911 and notified the homeowner that his deck was on fire, allowing all the residents to escape safely. Fire inspectors believe that a hot tub on the home’s upper level deck sparked the blaze that caused an estimated $35,000 damage.

Two pilots walked away unscathed after a helicopter crash at the Bend Municipal Airport Tuesday afternoon when they crashed during emergency landing exercises, authorities reported.

Several good Samaritans have been credited with likely saving the life of a woman who was the victim of what police described as a random attack ‘for no obvious reason’ on a stranger near Drake Park in Bend Tuesday afternoon.
