A 30-year old Bend man who was involved in a head-on crash in April, 2007 that resulted in the death of a Gates man was arrested yesterday for reckless driving. Witnesses in Tuesday’s incident told police that John Eric Young crossed the centerline and was nearly collided head-on collision with a commercial truck. Investigation officers also learned that Young was involved in a crash earlier in the morning.

A Lincoln City man was taken to the hospital yesterday afternoon with unknown injuries following a single vehicle rollover accident on Highway 20 north of Tumalo, and his one-year-old puppy remains at large after fleeing the scene, deputies reported.

Phyllis Rich is sentenced to serve 51 months in federal prison and ordered to pay more than $13 million in restitution

On Wednesday, the Bend City Council approved the City’s proposed water and sewer rate increases. Effective July 1, 2007, water rates will increase 5.5% and wastewater rates will increase 6.0% in the City of Bend. This means the monthly residential fee will increase an average of $1.38 (winter months) and $2.75 (summer months) for water and increase an average of $1.43 for sewer, bringing the monthly residential sewer charge to $25.18. A 2 ½ year-old Redmond boy is expected to make a full recovery after bystanders pulled him from the Deschutes River and began life saving efforts after he’d been floating face down for up to four minutes, deputies reported.
Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies and Bend Fire and Rescue personnel responded to a report of a drowning at Tumalo State Park Campground about 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Sgt. Dan Swearingen said.

The City of Bend has adjusted the proposed Urban Growth Boundary (UGB) to include an additional 80 acres of vacant land. This new parcel, in addition to the original staff-recommended 3,659 acres proposed on June 12, will bring the total to 3,739 acres.
There are two purposes for doing so, the City says.

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has issued a $1,500 penalty to Galyn D. Roth for allowing an unlicensed contractor to perform an asbestos abatement project on a fire/water-damaged building he owns at 2146 NE Fourth St. in Bend. A seven-year-old boy who went missing last evening while riding a motorcycle with his family about a mile from their campground off China Hat Road about 25 miles east of Bend was found this morning shortly after 7 a.m., safe and sound.
