A body was found Sunday afternoon when the Sheriff’s Office, LaPine Fire Department, and USFS fire crews went to investigate a report of smoke west of Dawn Road  and the Deschutes National Forest boundary. A 27-year-old LaPine man has been arrested for fatally-striking a pedestrian with his vehicle and fleeing the scene. Josh Day has been charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and failure to perform duties of a driver involved in an accident, according to Sgt. In U.S. District Court in Eugene, Kevin Tubbs, 37, Kendall Tankersley, 29, and Darren Todd Thurston, 36, entered guilty pleas on July 20th to criminal conspiracy and related arson charges that occurred from 1996 through 2001 in Oregon and four other Western states. Campaign Continues Momentum with Statewide Grassroots Efforts State Senator Ben Westlund (I), Independent candidate for Governor has announced that the campaign has gathered 18,390 signatures. The Oregon Arts Commission has announced $655,500 in grants to 102 Oregon arts organizations awarded through its Arts Services and Arts Learning Grant programs.  Among the recipients was Arts Central in Bend.  The non-profit organization received $17,000.
