Governor Ted Kulongoski announced that the Oregon State Police will go online today with a new website which publishes information regarding dangerous sex offenders residing in Oregon. The site was established in accordance with HR 3486 in order to provide information such as name, address, physical descriptions, pictures and conditions of release regarding high risk offenders.

Another candidate has thrown his hat into the race for Bend City Council and if this candidate has his way, it won’t be politics as usual.
Mark CapellMark Capell, 46, a forth-generation Bend resident, is running for the seat being vacated by Councilor Dave Malkin, who has chosen not to run for re-election.

The Bend City Police Department has arrested a Bend man suspected of robbing “Blue”, a Westside Bend clothing store, at gunpoint on Tuesday evening, June 27.
The suspect, David Sharp, age 20, was also arrested for the burglary of the Oregon Mountain Coffee Company which occurred June 22nd. An investigation is continuing related to the earlier robbery, where an undisclosed amount of property was taken from the store located at 1041 NE 9th Street in Bend. ... Creating a hybrid electrical power generator may sound like a task for engineering scholars at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), but in reality it was a project assembled by a group of Summit High School student.
The Summit High School InvenTeam showcased their Hybrid Electrical Generating Unit (HEGU) during the Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams Odyssey at MIT. The HEGU is designed to provide clean electrical power to the next generation of "plug in" hybrid electric vehicles.

“Yarrow” chosen to reflect natural and cultural history of the area
Madras Land Development Company yesterday announced that a name has been selected for the new master-planned community it is developing in Madras, Oregon. The name “Yarrow,” which is a native flowering plant, was chosen to reflect the indigenous history of the area. Traditionally used among the Pacific Northwest Native Americans for medicinal purposes, Yarrow has long history as a powerful healing herb.

Who cleans up after the Fourth of July fireworks? In Bend, it’s Boy Scouts, doing another “good turn” for their community. Led by scouting’s honor and service society, Order of the Arrow, area Boy Scouts will meet at 9:00 a.m. July 5th, in the east parking lot of Pilot Butte State Park and ascend the Central Oregon landmark. A 27 year old Terrebonne, Oregon man was seriously injured after he slipped on rocks at Cline Falls and fell approximately 25 feet, surfacing in the water below.
At about 5 pm Sunday, June 25th, Nicholas James Cole and a friend were attempting to push a log down the Deschutes River and over the falls when the accident occurred.
