(BEND, Ore.) – The seventh annual Make-A-Wish Radiothon exceeded its goal and raised $40,465 and 392,454 frequent flier miles that will help grant six wishes to children living with life-threatening medical conditions in Central Oregon.

The Redmond School Board accepted the resignation of board member Jim Diegel, effective June 30, 2006. Diegel was appointed to the board in May 2003 to complete the term of Neil Thompson. He served as vice chair for the 2004-05 and 2005-06 school years.

Dozens of inmates and staff of the Deschutes County Adult Jail have taken ill, suffering from symptoms of an outbreak defined as a €œgastrointestinal illness,€� authorities reported. Sheriff€™s Office Administration was notified Wednesday and immediately contacted the Deschutes County Health Department. The outbreak so far has been limited to 40 inmates and staff.

A Redmond man, who admitted he didn't learn his lesson the day before when he broke his ankle in a crash on his motorcycle, was cited for multiple offenses Sunday afternoon near Bend. Thirteen candidates have filed applications to fill the Bend City Council vacancy left by John Hummel who resigned earlier this month. The deadline was 5 p.m. Wednesday. During the last council meeting held March 7, council members agreed to an appointment process.

A 13-year-old boy who allegedly set four small fires with a lighter near Lava Lake on Tuesday evening has been cited for reckless burning. Fire crews responded and made sure the fires were safely extinguished.
About 5 p.m. on August 15, Deschutes County Sheriff’s detectives and deputies responded to investigate the suspicious fires, and found that a 13-year-old male was suspected of starting the fires.

A 17-year-old girl with a church group remained missing on late Saturday following a river rafting accident in the Deschutes River about 20 miles south of Maupin, Oregon.
Just before 8 pm on Thursday, July 6, the Wasco County Sheriff’s Office and the Wasco County Search and Rescue team responded to the area.

Wasco County Sheriff’s Office located the missing body of rafter, Danielle Hagler Sunday, July 9 using an underwater camera.
The body of the 17-year-old, who was thrown from her raft with three others on July 6, was lodged against a large boulder in the river. It was being held there as a result of the extreme water pressure.
