It's been proven that children who read achieve. They boast higher test scores and recognize letters and numbers more often than their peers who read less often. But getting children to crack open a book sometimes can be the tricky part for parents and teachers.

The Confederate Tribes of Warm Springs has decided not to renew its educational services contract with Central Oregon Community College (COCC) due to a budgetary decision. For the first time in 25 years COCC will not have an educational center on the reservation, but Laaurain Hintsala, chief operating officer of Warm Springs insists there was no dissatisfaction with COCC.

High School Graduations This Week
Over 1000 students will walk through commencement this week as Bend-LaPine Schools holds graduation ceremonies. With 1023 students set to receive diplomas, the Class of 2006 will be the largest graduating class the district has seen in at least 5 years.
LaPine High School will hold its commencement ceremony June 6th at 7 pm at the high school. They will have 105 graduates.

At their July 28 meeting, the Redmond School District’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to elect Tim Carpenter as its Chair for the 2006-07 school year.
