For two weeks, more than 100 students at High Lakes Elementary School engaged in a slightly unique kind of school work -– bicycle riding. The 5th grade students have been participating in an intensive one hour a day bicycle safety education program provided by Commute Options of Central Oregon. The free course takes students through the parts of the bicycle, helmet fitting, traffic laws and safe bike operation.

SALEM, Ore. – State Schools Superintendent Susan Castillo announced Wednesday that thirteen Oregon public schools have been placed on a “watch list,” under the school safety provisions of the federal No Child Left Behind Act. Oregon State University (OSU) recently announced the names of students who made the Scholastic Honor Roll for fall term. A total of 554 students earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average (gpa), including twelve from Bend, two from Redmond, and one from Terrebonne.

Slightly more than 95 percent of Central Oregon Community College nursing program students have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
The pass rate for Central Oregon Community College (COCC) ranks seventh among 20 nursing programs in Oregon, including both associate and bachelor degree programs. The pass rate for Oregon schools as a whole is 92.5 percent, the highest in the nation.

Oregon – During the 2006-2007 school year, 104,156 low-income Oregon students participated in the national School Breakfast Program, according to the School Breakfast Scorecard 2007. This was a slight increase over the prior year.
