Goose Gossage went into the hall of fame the other night. Just not "the" Hall of Fame. Gossage, former Chargers defensive end Gary "Big Hands" Johnson and former Padres President Emil "Buzzie" Bavasi were inducted into San Diego's Hall of Champions during the annual Champions Dinner. "I'm honored," Gossage said via telephone from his Colorado home days before the ceremony. "But I'd like to think it's just a start," the former Padres relief pitcher said. ... [full story]

When setting up to a putt the arms should be hanging directly under the shoulders.  This can be difficult to accomplish repeatedly, however, because often times it can feel as though the arms are hanging directly below the shoulders when they are not.  This happens when posture is poor.  Here’s a way to access your set-up: [full story]

Crook County’s population increased last week with the arrival of 35 newcomers to the area. The new arrivals, however, won’t be paying any taxes or driving any of our roads. These winged transplants came from the Roseburg area to join a total of over 1,100 other turkeys that have been released in the Ochocos since the late 1920s.   Sean Glaab, a National Wild Turkey Federation volunteer, assists in the release of 35 turkeys in Crook ... As a professional bass angler, I spend the months in between seasons preparing for the next year. I take an inventory of my tackle and tools, repairing some and replacing others. Though my season is about to kick off later this month, I realize that many of you are waiting on the return of warmer weather before you return to the water in search of fish.   Ranger Boats Pro Staff member Luke Clausen is the 2006 ... The waggle is an important part of the pre-shot routine. It’s very difficult to start a smooth golf swing from a stationary position and the waggle gets your energy flowing. It’s a way to get a better feel for the swing you are about to make. While a pre-shot routine is just that: a routine, the waggle is used to simply start movement. But don’t incorporate a move in your waggle that you wouldn’t incorporate into ... [full story]

Adrenaline junkie and naturalist that he is, pro golfer Will MacKenzie seems out of place in a game where players work extremely hard to keep emotions and adrenaline in check. But MacKenzie, 32, from Greenville, N.C., thrives on the PGA Tour despite the urge to paddle a kayak over Class V rapids, surf the closest reef, climb the nearest mountain or drop from a helicopter for some snowboarding on some fresh snow. OUTDOORS TOUR - ... [full story]

I think one of the best kept secrets in the Central Oregon Cascades has to be the Suttle Lake area. Although I must have driven past The Lodge at Suttle Lake countless times, I finally got a chance to visit the resort recently.   Snowshoeing at Santiam Sno-Park, all photos by Scott Staats.    Snowshoe tracks are the only trace of man in this area at Santiam Sno-Park.    The Lodge at Suttle Lake.    The lobby of the Lodge at Suttle ...
