Anglers should fish the deeper water near the dam this time of year. BIG LAVA LAKE: Angler success has picked up. MCMINNVILLE - The Fish and Wildlife Commission today approved $127,079 in funding for eight Fish Restoration and Enhancement projects benefiting fish and angling throughout Oregon . Reservoir was also recently stocked with legal size rainbow trout. BIG LAVA LAKE: Reports are that fishing was pretty good late last week though the catch slowed over the weekend. While the Deschutes River is famous for its summer run steelhead, good fishing opportunities exist well into the winter for summer-run hatchery fish that remain in the river. Summer-run fish are slow to mature and do not typically begin spawning until early spring in the Deschutes .
