Early to bed and early to rise gets Jack and Jill to the two-car-per-green on-ramp every morning. Accelerate, merge, get in the flow and hope nobody screws up or everybody will be late for work. Most days it seems a miracle when traffic flows. And on the days it doesn't, there is reassurance in driving a big Volvo.   VOLVO S80 - The S80 is the largest Volvo sedan and re-engineered this year, with a new ... [full story]

I consider myself a reasonably tech-savvy middle-age guy. My cell phone takes pictures and plays music, and I can surf the Web and send e-mail. I text and send cutesy messages with photos. I have a Bluetooth earpiece. Everybody in my family of four has an overpowered computer with flat-screen monitors and wireless cable Internet. I travel with a pocket PC and keyboard. I'm lazy and use these devices to make my life easier. And ... [full story]

It's been a while since we've reviewed a Moto Guzzi motorcycle. Nearly six years, in fact. That, as the small but vocal cult of Moto Guzzi fans would no doubt tell us, is far too long. But that 2001 review was less than a ringing endorsement for the products of the oft-beleaguered brand. Reviewer Mark Rechtin noted his test bike arrived with flat tires, leaky fuel lines and gunky oil in the crankcase.   MOTO GUZZI ... [full story]

One million miles on a motorcycle? Do that math. That's 1 million motorcycle miles. At a thousand miles a week, that's a 20-year quest. Not many riders will ever approach this.   KING OF THE ALPS - John Hermann has ridden 1 million miles on BMW motorcycles. Behind him is a road sign from the highest road in Austria. WASHINGTON - U.S. motorists have limited their driving habits for the first time in 26 years due in part to increasing fuel costs, USA Today reported. The travel report released Friday was based on Federal Highway Administration data that showed motorists nationwide have been driving less during the last 18 months after nearly three decades of steady travel increases. The data indicated between 1980 and 2005, the average annual growth rate of miles traveled by ... [full story]

WASHINGTON - Honda has announced it will lease some hydrogen fuel cell sedans in the United States next year. The company unveiled a prototype of the car in Washington, USA Today reported. Honda also said it plans to sell a mass-market hybrid sedan next year that will cost less than the Civic hybrid now on the market for $25,000. Which came first, the 40-foot, 17,000-pound travel trailer or the pickup to pull it? If you don't tow a race car or a boat the size of a small cruise ship or the Taj Mahal of travel trailers, the concept of a supersized pickup is unnecessary.   F-250 - With the right engine and body style, Ford's new Super Duty F-250 pickup can haul up 15,600 pounds. The highest tow rating is with the F-350 Dual ... [full story]

The Saab 9-3 SportCombi is a well-built European import that is inspiring to drive and treads lightly on the planet and your bank account. Its only fault is that it may leave too small of a footprint for a big family.   SAAB 9-3 SPORTCOMBI - The Saab 9-3 SportCombi has no rooftop luggage rails to betray the design. And the driving experience is light and lithe, anything but the perception of a wagon. CNS Photo ... [full story]

I had a rare Friday night off last week and was watching SPEED while waiting to see if qualifying at Texas was going to take place. During the evening, episodes of Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s program, "Back in the Day" were airing. It was the first time I had watched the show and I was only half paying attention but caught enough to notice that it was pretty entertaining. Near the end of one episode, a ... [full story]

The redesigned Mitsubishi Lancer is more than an evolutionary sedan, but it is an Evolution. When Mitsubishi and DaimlerChrysler parted ways toward the end of 2005, this platform was under development by Mitsubishi for the new Lancer and a few Chrysler vehicles, such as the Jeep Compass and Dodge Caliber.   MITSUBISHI LANCER - There's a lot to the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer that most drivers won't see, but they will feel.
