On Monday, a dozen quilters from the Crook County Quilt Guild will visit the St. Charles Regional Cancer Treatment Center to donate hours of their time neatly wrapped in hand-made quilts for cancer patients. This Saturday, June 23, marks the opening of the fireworks sales season. Bend Fire and Rescue responds to fires each year caused by both illegal and legal fireworks. This is concerning, in that, the bulk of these incidents take place in a two to three week period. BEND, Ore. — Deschutes National Forest fuel specialists are planning to conduct a series of three small underburns to provide forest ecologists the opportunity to study how bitterbrush responds to fire.
