A suspected thief abandoned a car stolen from Bend after getting the vehicle high-centered and stuck on rocks following a police pursuit through Redmond and onto a gravel and dirt road leading out of town early Sunday morning, deputies reported. Residents within a 400-foot radius of a natural gas line that was accidentally ruptured by construction workers in southwest Redmond Saturday morning were evacuated for about four hours while repairs were made, police reported. All three counties in Central Oregon saw their unemployment rates drop from April to May. Both Crook and Deschutes County saw their rates drop more than expected. Deschutes County had the lowest rate at 4.1 percent, while Jefferson County had the highest at 6.2 percent. The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday announced with sadness the death of “Koda”, a police dog who has served with the agency since February of this year.   A Belgian Malinois is a breed similar in appearance to a German Shepard. A 16-year-old driver was airlifted to the hospital after her vehicle drifted onto the gravel shoulder of the roadway in Powell Butte early yesterday morning and flipped over, pinning her underneath, deputies reported. An 18-year-old Prineville woman escaped serious injury when she swerved her pickup to avoid hitting a deer on O’Neil Highway in Crook County, Oregon Tuesday evening, deputies reported. Oregon State Police detectives have tentatively identified remains found in Central Oregon as a missing man from the McMinnville area. A detective assisted by two National Guard members found the remains Wednesday afternoon as they searched a section of BLM property east of Redmond.
