All three counties in Central Oregon saw their unemployment rates drop from February to March. Both Deschutes (the Bend Metropolitan Statistical Area) and Jefferson counties’ rates declined less than expected. Deschutes County had the lowest rate at 5.3 percent, while Jefferson County had the highest at 7.9 percent. A relative who found a one-year-old child in the backyard swimming pool of a Sisters home Sunday afternoon after she wandered out the back door during a family gathering helped save her life by performing CPR, deputies reported. Oregon State Police have identified the driver who died early Sunday morning after her pickup left the roadway, crashed into two trees, and caught fire about five miles west of Prineville on Highway 126.
