NAPLES, Fla. -- Alligator Alley, the interstate that slices across the Florida Everglades and Big Cypress Swamp, remained closed Monday because of a wildfire. The fire has burned more than 22,000 acres on the western edge of the Big Cypress National Preserve, The Miami Herald reported. DETROIT -- Experts say a growing number of U.S. residents are turning to foster-care adoptions in lieu of more expensive private adoptions. DETROIT -- General Motors Corp. will shed up to 8,000 more U.S. jobs, cancel its Pontiac brand and drop 2,600 dealerships, the Detroit automaker said Monday. The moves, to be accomplished by next year, are part of a revised restructuring plan developed in conjunction with the Obama administration, the Detroit Free Press reported. WASHINGTON -- The climate-change debate in Congress has resulted in juiced-up spending on lobbyists by U.S. electric utilities, a review of documents reveals.
