MADRID - An order of Spanish nuns has been accused of stealing priceless religious icons when they moved from their previous convent. The wooden icons, dating as far back as the 16th century, were discovered missing after the order of Carmelite nuns moved from their long-time home six months ago, Britain's Independent newspaper reported Wednesday. BUENOS AIRES - Nearly 300 crewmembers of an Argentine icebreaker abandoned ship when the vessel aught fire in the South Atlantic. The fire aboard the Almirante Irizar reportedly broke out in the generator room of the ship late Tuesday, prompting the 296-man crew to pile into 24 lifeboats and await rescue, La Nacion reported Wednesday. DHAKA - Bangladesh's Army-backed caretaker government has rounded up about 159,000 people since taking power on Jan. 12. CAIRO - Amnesty International has condemned Egypt's efforts to fight terrorism, alleging in a new report that Egypt is violating peoples' human rights. The organization said in a news release Wednesday that Egypt had detained thousands of its citizens without fair trials, and many terror suspects had been tortured. NORTHAMPTON - A car full of people traveling on Britain's M1 motorway was violently attacked by up to 15 men who temporarily stopped highway traffic. HELSINKI - A new survey says a majority of Finns favor legal reform for the parental rights of same-sex couples.
