TEHRAN - An Iranian diplomat who was held in Iraq for weeks claimed U.S. intelligence agents tortured him "day and night" during his captivity. BAGHDAD - Iraqi and U.S. forces reported progress Wednesday in their security sweep of Baghdad with numerous arrests of suspected insurgents. The forces reported two militants were killed and 20 others were arrested in the clampdown, Alsumaria reported. NEW DELHI - Jagjit Singh Chauhan, whose efforts to create a separate "land of the pure" for the Sikhs led to much violence, died in India at age 80. BELGRADE - Four Serbian paramilitary officers were found guilty Tuesday of participating in the Srebrenica massacre of Bosnian Muslims 12 years ago. The convictions were the first in Serbia for crimes that were related to Srebrenica, The New York Times reported. Thousands of men and boys were slaughtered in a few days in July 1995. BOGOTA - A car bomb exploded outside a police station in the southwest Colombian city of Cali, the first such bombing in four years. The bombing reportedly was the handiwork of the left-wing rebel group Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, authorities said. HELSINKI - A court in Finland has imprisoned a Rwandan man suspected of participating in the 1994 massacres in his country. The suspect, a member of the Hutu tribe and a former pastor in the Baptist Church in Rwanda, allegedly was a leader in the killing of Tutsis, Helsingin Sanomat reported. ANKARA - A man who took over a Turkish passenger plane Tuesday with a threat of having explosives onboard gave himself up after the aircraft landed in Ankara. TIRANA - An Albanian opposition lawmaker and journalist said an explosion damaged his car in Tirana but nobody was injured, media reported Tuesday. JERUSALEM - Palestinian Authority police said Tuesday that an Israeli report of a Hamas plan to detonate a car bomb in Tel Aviv on Passover is unfounded. STRASBOURG - The Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights in France has ruled against a British woman fighting to use frozen embryos fertilized by an ex-partner. Natallie Evans of Trowbridge, England, was left infertile by treatment for ovarian cancer.
