VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Eight years after a Canadian boy was born brain-damaged, a Vancouver, British Columbia, court has awarded his mother $4 million in damages. The provincial Supreme Court ruled in favor of Monica Cojocaru, who sought the damages from the British Columbia Women's Hospital in Vancouver. WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Manitoba became the first Canadian province to enact a law requiring anyone who encounters child pornography to report it to police. Family Services Minister Gord Mackintosh said while the most likely people to come across child pornography are Internet service providers and computer repair technicians, the law makes it mandatory for every resident to report it, the Winnipeg Free Press reported Thursday. MONTREAL -- A massive sweep of Canadian Hells Angels members and associates in Quebec was made possible by at least three inside informers, police said. BROOME, Australia -- An explosion on a boat carrying refugees killed at least three people and injured 46 others, with two reported missing, Western Australian police said. MOMBASA, Kenya -- French officials Wednesday said a French warship captured 11 suspected pirates off the coast of Kenya.
